In my last post I shared our visits to Sweet Creek Falls Trail and Neptune Scenic Viewpoint. While flying the drone over Thor’s Well we got chatting with a couple who recently moved to the area, and discovered in the course of our conversation that we hadn’t actually reached THE waterfall on Sweet Creek, and we were told it was worth going back for. I had a hankering to go back to Thor’s Well too, in hopes of better light.
So… when we got settled in our next Campground, Beverly Beach State Park (78 miles north), we turned the tow car around and drove back to Florence and back up the river to Sweet Creek Falls Trail again. This time we started in a different spot and went to the end, or at least as far as we could go… the trail was closed right before reaching it, The falls are lovely, but difficult to get a good shot of from where we stood.
We stopped back at Neptune Scenic Viewpoint as well, and the light was much prettier this time.
Ya know how I’m always seeing faces and figures in clouds and things? Does anyone else see a devil in that geyser? ?
Then we pulled out the drone again…
We got back to our campsite just in time to catch the sunset on Beverly Beach…
The following day we drove to my favorite Lighthouse on the Oregon Coast… Yaquina Head. In addition to the lighthouse, there’s a wonderful shoreline covered entirely with round black stones, lots of tide pools, and seals and sea birds galore. The black stones make the most wonderful sound as the waves roll them up and down the shore.
We also hiked down to Quarry Cove. We didn’t spot any wildlife there, but found some lovely waves. ?
Later that afternoon we drove Zippy north to the Lincoln Beach area to see Devil’s Punchbowl. This is another pretty cool bit of shoreline…
And that is it for that segment of coast. One more section of the Oregon Coast to go, and that will be up next!
